How does this calculator split chores fairly?
Unlike traditional chore wheels that treat a 5-minute task the same as a 2-hour deep clean, the Smart Chore Splitter weights each chore by its duration (15 minutes to 2 hours) and aims to balance weekly effort in proportion to each housemate’s available hours. Individual chores, availability, and preferences can make an exact split impossible, so review the generated totals.
Can I account for roommates with different busy schedules?
Yes. In the Housemates section, adjust the weekly available hours for each housemate. The fairness algorithm calculates each housemate’s target capacity percentage and uses that share as a target when assigning tasks. Actual totals may differ because chores are indivisible.
How do chore preferences and dislikes work?
In the Preferences section, you can specify tasks each housemate prefers or dislikes. The scheduler prioritizes matching chores with housemates who enjoy them while avoiding disliked tasks whenever possible, while also considering workload balance.
Can I export the schedule to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar?
Yes. Once your weekly schedule is generated, open Share & Export and choose Export to Calendar (.ics) to add chore events to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, or any standard calendar application.
